On December 16th, 1924 a group of leaders gathered to lay a cornerstone for a new building between Clark and LaSalle streets in Chicago. That building would become known as The Moody Church. On Monday, it will be the 100 year anniversary of that historic day.
Engraved on the cornerstone are these words:
“Other foundation no man lay than that is laid which is Jesus Christ. 1 Cor. 3:11”
God used D.L. Moody to plant a small Sunday school for street kids in a rented saloon that would one day become a thriving worldwide ministry. D.L. Moody didn’t just plant a church, he started a movement: A Gospel movement in the city for the world. And the foundation of it all is Jesus Christ, our precious Cornerstone.
The century-old church cornerstone is still visible on the left side of the stairs leading up to main entrance off Clark Street, just below the plaque which reads “Ever welcome to this house of God are strangers and the poor.”
May God continue to bless The Moody Church, as we remain faithful to our foundation in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, by the power of the Spirit, to the glory of the Father!
We are indeed loved, more than we know!
