On Wednesday, Krista and I celebrated our 20th anniversary. It’s hard to believe it’s been twenty years! We met during our first week at Cedarville University, and since we were both Bible majors, we shared many of the same classes. But it wasn’t until our sophomore year that I got up the gumption to ask her out.

Our first date was terrible. I didn’t have a car, so we were confined to campus. I bought tickets to a play put on by the student theater troupe, and arranged dinner at the all-exclusive cafeteria we called “Chucks.” Dinner was awkward because all our friends kept gawking at us. The play turned out to be full of family conflict and tension, so we felt mildly traumatized. And then to top it all off, I tried to teach Krista both pool and chess in the same evening. So the next day, we just pretended the whole thing hadn’t happened and went back to being just friends.

Then six months later, I knew I had to give it another shot. I asked Krista out to coffee, and this time it stuck. I’m so grateful.

I can’t imagine life without Krista. She’s been a gift of grace. God knew just what He was doing when He led us to one another and formed this ministry partnership. So here’s to the next twenty, Krista, you are loved, more than you know!
