Today we begin a new chapter in our series through the Gospel of Luke. The question front and center is: “Who is this Jesus?” The crowds think He’s a great prophet, others describe Him as a brilliant rabbi, and as we’ll see this week, John the Baptist isn’t quite sure who Jesus is anymore. Who is this man who can raise the dead and speak with such authority? What category does Jesus belong to? What ought we expect of Him?
There’s no one in all of history who has had more consequential influence on the world than Jesus. He literally split our timeline in two. For all the modern attempts to move past Him, Jesus remains the world’s most interesting person. Just who is He? What is He all about? Why does He still deserve our attention?
These questions and more will dominate our conversation over the coming weeks as we journey with the first-century people who wrestled with just what to do with Jesus. Let’s join them in asking this most important of questions: “Who is this Jesus?”
Along the way we’ll discover that we are loved, more than we know!
